The mayor ordered the numbers removed. The crowd refused to move.

A surgeon described the hour that saved a child. A waiter described mornings so short he no longer saw his own children awake. A parade director insisted joy mattered too. Jun asked why some neighborhoods received the joy while others received the bill.

No speech could make all of them wrong. No machine could make all of them right.
