But in its central chamber they found dozens of red emergency lines: hospitals, fire lifts, rescue trams. If the engine stopped suddenly, every borrowed minute would snap back at once. The current day might lose eighteen thousand hours it did not have.
Destroying the debt would not erase it. It would only choose new people to pay.
